According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a shooting call just before 3 a.m. at the intersection of FM-529 and Highway 99 after a witness reported seeing shots fired from a vehicle.
When deputies arrived, they reportedly found the 19-year-old man in the driver's seat of a car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"What we've been able to establish at this point is that our victim was traveling westbound in the 529 area headed toward Grand Parkway. At some point, a vehicle -- witnesses are describing it as a gray-colored sedan -- was seen driving along the passenger side of that vehicle, and there were multiple gunshots fired from the vehicle into our victim's vehicle," HCSO Sgt. Sidney Miller said.
Miller added that family members were able to track down the victim through a GPS system on the car and showed up at the scene.
"So we are actively looking for what appears to be a gray sedan, possibly a Hyundai. In terms of the suspect, we don't have a suspect description at this time," Miller said.
The sergeant said it was unclear at this time whether this was a road rage incident or if the shooting was targeted.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the HCSO Homicide Unit at (713) 274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS (8477).
The shooting victim has not been identified.
