Deputies said 60-year-old Jose Sanchez Olivarez was taken into custody after investigators determined he was driving a white Nissan Titan truck that rear-ended 22-year-old Gloria Guevera's red Ford Mustang.
The crash happened around 7:45 p.m. at Tidwell Road and C.E. King Parkway. Authorities said Olivarez was speeding when he hit Guevera's Ford Mustang, pushing it into oncoming traffic, where it collided with a truck hauling a trailer.
Guevera, who was two to three months pregnant, died at the scene. Her 16-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. No one in the truck that struck Guevera's car was hurt.
Deputies said Olivarez fled the scene but was later arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail. He is charged with one count of failure to stop and render aid resulting in death and one count of failure to stop and render aid resulting in serious bodily injury.
The Nissan Titan, believed to have been involved in the crash, has also been recovered.
"Please pray for the family," Major A. McConnell said. "They're going to need your support."
