HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The MKT Bridge in The Heights reopened on Thursday after over a year of closure and repairs, according to Houston city leaders.

The bridge, part of the popular Heights Hike and Bike Trail, sits along Buffalo Bayou near Hogan Street. The MKT bridge closed in January 2025 after construction equipment from a TxDOT project broke loose during a winter storm. The equipment was carried downstream and slammed into the bridge.

In July 2025, the Houston City Council authorized more than $1.1 million to repair the bridge, with construction starting in September of that year. Initially, it was reported that the construction would take three months. The bridge reopened nearly 9 months after construction began.

Houston City Councilmember Mario Castillo shared a post on social media about the reopening, stating in part, "this vital connection is once again bringing together neighbors, parks, businesses, and trails."
