Eyewitness News received a firsthand look at the procedure inside "HIS Hair Clinic." Jonathan Gerow walked us through what's commonly known as "head tattooing."
"We're giving guys a boast of confidence you know," said Gerow. "Guys come in here with no hair and we literally replicate hair follicles, 1000s of 100s of them. We build up the density."
24-year old Taylor Schipp said his receding hair line bothered him and wanted a change. So, he decided to go ahead and have what's formally called "scalp micro-pigmentation" done.
"It's not the most pleasant feeling by all means," said Schipp. "I wanted an alternative to have, versus sitting and messing with it every day for work. It was just tiresome, trying to look pretty every day for everyone, and I just couldn't take it anymore."
Instead of "tattooing" just the balding spots, they cover the entire scalp. That way, if you lose any more in the future you'll be covered.
The procedure costs anywhere between $2,500 to $4,500 and is done in multiple sessions. Much like a regular tattoo, protecting the scalp from sun exposure lengthens its life and look.
