HCSO searching for person who opened fire in Humble wooded area near little league field: Deputies

Tuesday, November 11, 2025
HUMBLE, Texas (KTRK) -- Harris County Sheriff deputies want to know who opened fire in a wooded area near a Little League baseball field, and sent a weekend tournament into chaos.

What happened at a youth baseball field in Humble behind PYG Connect church will stick with parents for years to come.

"We were cold," Laurette Veres recalled. "It was really cold on Sunday."

It's not the weather parents will remember, but what they heard from the wooded area behind the park.

"Out of nowhere, we just heard shots," Veres recalled. "It was like, boom, boom, boom, boom."

Veres' two sons were waiting to play in the championship game at this field in Humble. They didn't get to play a game because of what happened.

"We heard that noise and took cover. We never saw anything," Veres said. "A little bit of me was like, could it be fireworks? Everyone was like, 'No, no, no. You know a gun when you hear a gun.'"

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said they received reports of upwards of 20 shots, from possibly two weapons, on Sunday night around 8 p.m. Deputies said the gunfire occurred in the wooded area behind the field. Deputies responded, and stated that they couldn't locate the person who fired.

According to law enforcement, nobody was hurt.

The group, Perfect Game, was behind this weekend's event. Organizers told ABC13 they ended the tournament, and future games at the field are on hold. CC1 manages the fields. A spokesperson told ABC13 the fields didn't suffer any damage. They are thankful to God that everyone was okay.

ABC13 asked deputies if there had been other gunfire calls recently in the wooded area. They told ABC13 that in the last year, there have been calls about animals, but nothing about gunfire.

Deputies want to find out who was discharging the weapon on Sunday. They're asking for anyone with information to contact the sheriff's office at 713-221-6000.
