ATASCOCITA, Texas (KTRK) -- The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating a major crash that they say killed a couple in the Atascocita area on Friday morning.

Authorities confirmed two people on a motorcycle were killed and a pickup truck driver was injured in the incident along FM 1960 E at about 3:45 a.m.

"Preliminary -- the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the pickup truck pulled out in front of him, and the collision actually happened in the intersection at that time," Dashana Cheek with HCSO said.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the man driving the motorcycle died at the scene. He said a woman, who was his passenger, was taken to the hospital by Life Flight, but she also died.

"I was told that they were husband and wife," Cheek said. "I was not advised of any helmets -- I didn't see any on scene so it doesn't appear that they had any."

According to Cheek, the pickup was pulling out of a neighborhood with a stop sign, traveling onto FM 1960 as the motorcycle was traveling eastbound. That's when she says the pickup truck pulled out into the intersection and was hit by the motorcycle.

The truck driver was reportedly taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

Cheek said the pickup driver was tested, did not show signs of impairment, and was cooperative.

An investigation into the deadly crash continues.
