In 2023, Elvio Mancebo was supposed to show up for his sentencing in Harris County; instead, he removed his GPS monitor and went on the run. Now, years later, he was found in Brooklyn, New York, the FBI said.
Authorities said Mancebo was 19 in 2017 when he was involved in a robbery where he shot and killed two people in a vacant apartment. He was charged with capital murder in that case.
Prosecutors said he repeatedly violated his bond but was still allowed to post bail. Prosecutors said it took six years to try him in the case due to Hurricane Harvey and the pandemic.
However, in October 2025, attorneys said Mancebo agreed to plead guilty to a reduced charge of first-degree murder and accept a 50-year sentence behind bars. The judge then allowed Mancebo a few days to tell his family goodbye but never showed up to court.
Now, he's awaiting extradition to Harris County.
