Unofficial results show November's general election will come down to Republican Orlando Sanchez and Democrat Letitia Plummer, both former Houston City Councilors.
Sanchez won his runoff by a large margin. But on the Democratic side, between former Council Member Dr. Letitia Plummer and former Houston Mayor Annise Parker, the race came down to just over 2,500 votes.
"We won this race because we heard people and we met them where they were. We did not do politics as usual. We did them differently because we touched them," Plummer said Wednesday.
She's told ABC13 she wants to take "an inclusive approach" to Harris County, promoting her priorities, including equal pay, disaster recovery, and jail conditions.
By all accounts, Plummer's win was an upset.
Back in March, Parker won 46% of the vote to Plummer's 37%.
A University of Houston Hobby Center poll from two weeks ago showed Parker winning the runoff by 18 points.
On the Republican side, Sanchez beat Warren Howell, the president of an insurance company, by nearly 36,000 votes.
"I am ready to make sure that Harris County knows there is a stark difference between a very progressive candidate that is going to appear on the ballot in November and a conservative that will manage this county in a fiscally responsible manner, save their money," Sanchez said.
Sanchez has said county government hasn't been working for the community in recent years, pointing to issues like the backlog in the criminal justice system and stalled flood projects.
Sanchez and Plummer will face off in November's general election for county judge, replacing incumbent Lina Hidalgo, who chose not to seek reelection.
