Harris County assault suspect taken into custody after chase into Leon County, sheriff's office says

LEON COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A suspect accused of aggravated assault in Harris County was taken into custody on Monday morning in Leon County after a pursuit with law enforcement, authorities said.

According to the Leon County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a report of a chase on IH-45 northbound as it entered their jurisdiction from Madison County.

Authorities said the suspect vehicle was also involved in an aggravated robbery in Walker County.

The sheriff's office said the chase continued into Leon County before it ended near mile marker 163 NB on IH-45. Authorities said the suspect was taken into custody and airlifted to a hospital for medical attention. Officials did not say why the suspect needed medical attention.

Officials advised the public to avoid the area if possible as law enforcement responded to the scene.



The Leon County Sheriff's Office said the Texas Rangers are leading the investigation, which is currently underway.
