HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A Cypress man is facing multiple charges after he failed to pull over for a traffic stop, led deputies on a brief chase, and barricaded himself in his own home for several hours.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, this incident started after deputies with Harris County Constable Precinct 5 attempted to stop the man on Tuckerton Road for allegedly speeding near an elementary school.

Investigators said the man did not stop for the deputies and continued driving until he arrived at a home in the 19100 block of Goodnight Peak Trail Drive.

HCSO Lt. Brian Buccini said the suspect ran, got out of the vehicle, ran inside the house, grabbed a firearm, and pointed it at deputies.

Buccini said the deputies, fearing for their lives, took cover, and immediately, the suspect went back inside the house.

Once back inside, a four-hour standoff began. Negotiators tried to get the man to come out.

However, as his wife explained later in the day, her husband, whom she identified as a former marine, was not coming out without a warrant.

"He gets triggered really easy," his wife said, who did not want to share her name. "So the moment they stop him, he gets thinking they are going to arrest him, kill him, so he's got to run to the house. And didn't want to come out. Unless they have a warrant, then he will walk out. But without it, he's not going to come out and talk to law enforcement."

Once the warrant paperwork was issued, a text message containing that image was the key to ending the standoff.

As the man remained inside, officials did call for backup. ABC13's SkyEye flew over the scene, where additional police cars and a Harris County SWAT truck were visible.

Officials did not elaborate on how long the man was inside but confirmed he was placed into custody.

"We ended up getting our warrant signed, and once we got our warrant signed, we got it to our negotiators, they sent it electronically to our suspect, and he surrendered with no issues," Buccini said.

As investigators collected evidence from the home and car, the man's wife insisted her husband simply drove home.

"He didn't do anything wrong, so they can charge him with whatever. But he didn't hurt anybody, break any property, or commit a crime; it's just a traffic ticket," she said.

He is facing multiple felony charges, officials said.

The man's wife and two young children were home during the standoff.
None of them were hurt.
