13-year-old Galveston student escaped attempted kidnapping by biting attacker, police say
Authorities spoke to the 13-year-old student, who reportedly told them she heard footsteps approaching from behind near the 900 block of 28th Street.
The student told police a man grabbed her from behind, and after a brief struggle, she bit him twice, broke free, and ran to school, officers said.
Police said she was not injured in the incident.
Authorities said they sent an alert to medical facilities to notify police if anyone sought treatment for bite-related injuries.
The student's parents later accompanied officers back to their apartment and retraced the student's route to identify where the incident happened, police said.
Investigators said they reviewed security video footage from a business in the 1000 block of 24th Street that shows the student walking, followed shortly after by a man taking the same path.
Authorities said the suspect appears to be a White or Hispanic man, wearing a black short-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and what appeared to be a ski mask.
Galveston police are requesting the public's help in identifying the suspect.
