Less than two hours, that's how long Gerrode Terrel Smith spent as one of the most wanted men in Houston before a tip from the public got him arrested. FBI Houston saying he is facing federal bank robbery charges. Around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, a $5,000 award was announced for information leading to his arrest.
Nine men remain at large, their rewards ranging from $5,000 to $50,000.
Eyewitness News has covered a number of the cases these men are said to be connected to.
In June 2021, ABC13 spoke to the family of Leslie Reyes and Esly Erzo. The mother and daughter were killed inside their apartment, according to police. They were found by a family member when they didn't show up for a party. Family told ABC13 at the time they were distraught and unsure how or why the double shooting happened.
HPD would go on to identify Hector Manuel Birriel Carrasquillo as their suspect and charge him with murder. No motive was named at the time, and he is among the most wanted today.
Eyewitness News also covered the 2021 murder of 29-year-old Eddie Clark III. Police, at the time, told ABC13 a Houston family was alleged to be having problems with someone vandalizing their home. They mistook Clark for that person, and police say they shot at his car, killing him.
Four members of the same family have been charged with that shooting: Luis Argueta, his son, his wife, and his brother-in-law.
Argueta is the only one still on the run.
Investigators said back in 2023, they believe he is still in the area.
"I have no reason to believe he has fled the area. I have every reason to believe he is still here. People don't just up and leave their wives and families and homes behind over something like this. Again, I think he's just a coward," investigator David Crain said.
People with tips on the whereabouts of the nine remaining fugitives can contact the FBI Houston at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
