The district's 16th middle school, Amy Coleman Middle School, is now open to kick off the 2026-2027 school year.
The construction of this school was part of the 2023 school bond, and the district says it was needed to balance the enrollment numbers at the other nearby middle schools.
As for the big changes the district has made, back in March, the board of trustees voted to close seven elementary schools.
ABC13 heard from parents at the time who were against the schools closing.
The district said they ultimately made the decision to close the schools because of declining enrollment and a more than $50 million budget deficit.
The board of trustees also approved districtwide elementary attendance boundary changes, another big change that impacts many Fort Bend ISD families.
The district said in a statement that its action, they think, was the best for long-term stability and student success.
