FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The Fort Bend County's tax assessor-collector is now coming under fire.

Search warrants show that Carmen Turner is being investigated for misusing government money, although she has not been formally charged.

Those search warrants accuse Turner of using Fort Bend County's money to pay her employees to take care of her mother for about eight months.

According to the documents, the auditor's office conducted the investigation after a former employee made a complaint and posted a video on Facebook about "corruption in the Fort Bend County tax office."

Officials requested a cell phone on where they say the demands were written out. Investigators stated that all of this occurred between October 2023 and June 2024.

Documents also show text messages between the two employees, showing them working together to care for Turner's mom.

The documents also show investigators learned the employees clocked in and out using their cell phones, which they said they learned is against tax office policy.

It also reveals, according to payroll records, that the two employees received a gross pay of $27,020.56 in county funds while caring for Turner's mother over a period of approximately eight months.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office confirmed to ABC13 that they are now handling this case, as the Fort Bend County DA's office has recused themselves.

ABC13 attempted to speak with Turner at her office about the allegations, but was told she is not available.
