HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Fire crews battled a major warehouse fire in southeast Houston on Wednesday evening that filled the skies with heavy smoke.

According to the Houston Fire Department, the blaze broke out at Texford Battery Co. while employees were still inside. All workers managed to escape safely, and no injuries have been reported.

SkyEye flew over the scene off the Gulf Freeway near the University of Houston, showing the warehouse engulfed in flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. HFD says the warehouse stores lead-acid and lithium batteries, which are all highly flammable.

Officials reported the fire was under control, but crews remain on scene extinguishing hot spots.
