Houston's Dementia Friendly Church at The Landing at Augusta Woods started when a resident missed going to church after moving in. That simple request led to a ministry run by residents for people living with dementia. The service uses Montessori methods, focusing on each person's abilities and giving them meaningful roles.
Edward Craft works as the Lifestyle Director at the facility.
"It gives our residents a sense of purpose and pride in our community. We really want to showcase what people living with dementia are still capable of doing," Craft said.
Brandi Williams, the executive director of The Landing, said the service now includes all memory care residents and is reaching even more people.
"We have residents from other parts of our community, assisted living, independent living that come and join," Williams shared.
