Police said the incident happened Sept. 3; officers were called after the victims were found in the apartment management office at the Park at Woodlake apartments in the 9500 block of Ella Lee Lane.
Since then, 53-year-old Derrick Duane Jackson was arrested and charged with capital murder in the case, records show.
During Jackson's court appearance on Wednesday, it was revealed that on the day of the murders, Jackson went into the leasing office over a disagreement on a 14-month lease.
Jackson reportedly told authorities he got into an argument with Felix Antonio Jimenez Macz. Jackson said he became upset when Jimenez Macz started using "Spanglish."
At some point during the argument, Rosa Linda Ybarra reportedly said, "You signed the lease, didn't you," according to the court hearing.
Jackson allegedly said Ybarra's statement caused him to "snap," pulled out a gun, and shot her in the face. Jimenez Macz tried running away, but Jackson reportedly shot him once.
Noticing Jimenez Macz was still alive, records state that Jackson proceeded to shoot him a second time and then took a knife out and stabbed him repeatedly.
Following the murders, Jackson left the leasing office and went to a hotel. Authorities said Jackson was arrested Friday evening; a pistol and pocketknife were also recovered in the hotel room.
On Wednesday, Jackson's bond was set at $1 million.
