HOUSOTN, Texas (KTRK) -- The man accused of shooting and killing an 11-year-old during a game of "ding-dong ditch" is now facing a capital murder charge, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

On Wednesday, the DA's office said a grand jury handed down that indictment for Gonzalo Leon Jr.

The shooting happened in August 2025. Court records state that 11-year-old Julian Guzman, his cousin, and some other friends were at a relative's house on Racine Street attending a birthday party. The boys reportedly got bored and decided to play the "ding-dong ditch" game around the neighborhood.

Guzman and his cousin were ringing doorbells of homes in the area and running away, records state. A witness said Guzman had run to Leon's home, rang the doorbell several times, and began to run away.

Leon then allegedly walked out of his house, onto a public street, pointed a gun, and fired.

Initially. Leon was charged with injury to a child and aggravated assault, but following additional details after Guzman's death, Leon was charged with murder.
