On Tuesday afternoon, Brazoria County Sheriff Bo Stallman announced on social media that Kevin Tippett, the deputy who shot and killed 18-year-old John Mendoza Jr., was terminated from his employment.
Authorities say that Mendoza Jr. was shot and killed in the garage of his Lake Jackson home on June 1.
The sheriff says the termination is independent of the Texas Rangers' investigation, and the case will go to a grand jury to decide if there will be any charges, which the district attorney's office announced last week.
