Eyewitness News was in the historic courthouse in Richmond when Wong was sworn in just after 11 a.m. on Monday.
"Today is not just a ceremony," Wong said. "It is a turning point. I stand before you deeply honored, humbled by your trust and ready to get to work."
This comes just days after Judge KP George was suspended temporarily by a judge in Galveston County.
George, who was criminally convicted of money laundering last month, has faced multiple scandals in recent years.
This suspension is not related to the conviction last month, but rather the result of a formal complaint alleging that George improperly removed a woman from a public meeting last year.
Republican Judge Jeth Jones made last week's decision to suspend George and replace him with Wong.
The move to place Wong in that position is drawing criticism from some who believe the decision was based on politics.
After he was sworn in, ABC13 tried to question Wong about the appointment and the criticism from it, but he wouldn't answer.
"I have no comments on people out there saying whatever they can say," Wong said. "I have no comment at all today."
Wong is the Republican nominee in November's election for the position.
"Judge Jones abandoned judicial independence and chose to put his thumb on the scale of our elections," the campaign of Democratic candidate Dexter McCoy said.
McCoy is scheduled for a runoff against fellow Democrat Rachelle Carter in May.
"This may warrant some review to ensure the process is clear and fair. At face value, it could be viewed as creating an unfair advantage." Carter said in a statement.
