The incident was reported on Friday afternoon on Highway 90 near Easton Avenue, according to officials.
A diesel spill closed Highway 90 intersections for several hours, but according to Fort Bend County hazmat teams, it has now been contained. Streets that intersect with the highway, including Easton Avenue, Highway 6, Stadium Drive, University Boulevard and Main Street, have been affected.
Traffic was reportedly expected for a Banana Ball game at Constellation Field this evening.
SLPD confirmed that no occupants of the train or truck reported any major injuries, and that crews evaluated the train's cargo to confirm there was no public threat.
Officials did not provide a specific timeline for when roads will return to normal, and urged drivers to seek alternate routes.
Editor's Note: A previous version of this story reported that the Savannah Bananas were playing at Constellation Field, citing a report from Sugar Land PD. It has since been updated with the correct information.
