'Corpse flower' to bloom, a rare, stinky event of a lifetime

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- For the second time in less than five years, a giant corpse flower is blooming at Moody Gardens.

The blooming period is just two to four days, so you have a short time to see and smell the rare plant.

The name 'corpse flower' comes from the unpleasant odor of rotting flesh which the plant emits during flowering.

To put it in perspective: fewer than 85 corpse flowers have bloomed in the U.S., and this will be just the fifth in Texas.
