The details
While construction on the work included in the filings is projected to be completed by the end of 2027, Lilly representatives said the overall project remains on track to be completed by 2030.
"Lilly Houston remains on track and is progressing as planned against its previously announced timeline," a Lilly spokesperson confirmed in a July 23 emailed statement. "We will continue to provide updates as they become available."
Representatives from McCord Development, which owns and operates Generation Park, did not return a request for comment as of press time.
A closer look
Each of the filings includes the construction of shell buildings, including stairways and elevator shafts, that will eventually house the manufacturing site. Among the filings registered with TDLR include:
- A $131 million, roughly 233,000-square-foot facility
- A $9 million, roughly 15,000-square-foot facility
- A $193 million, roughly 342,000-square-foot facility
- A $21 million, roughly 57,000-square-foot facility
- A $24 million, roughly 52,000-square-foot facility
In total, the projects are projected to cost around $378 million.
The site at Generation Park will manufacture Orforglipron, an investigational, once-daily oral GLP-1 medication being studied for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes and obesity, according to a Sept. 23 news release.
Some context
Lilly announced its plans to build a $6.5 billion manufacturing facility at Generation Park at a news conference held in September 2025.
Lilly officials said the site will bring 615 jobs to the area, including positions for engineers, scientists and lab technicians, per a previous news release. Officials also said they expect to create 4,000 construction jobs in the area as the site build takes off.
For every dollar Lilly spends in the area, the company estimates up to an additional $4 in local economic stimulation. The release also states that for every job created in manufacturing, several more will be created in related sectors such as supply chain, logistics and retail.
Lilly's new facility is coming as McCord Development officials continue their push to brand Generation Park as a premier life sciences hub in Houston, as previously reported by Community Impact.
The big picture
In 2023, McCord unveiled its plans for its 60-acre master-planned biomanufacturing campus, dubbed BioHub Two.
According to a March 2025 Cushman & Wakefield life sciences report, the Houston market currently ranks No. 14 nationwide for total employment in life sciences.
Additionally, the report projects the Houston area's life sciences employment rate to grow by 76.5% over the next 10 years.
