CONROE, Texas (KTRK) -- Conroe City Council voted against a proposal to put Flock cameras on the November ballot for voters to decide whether the city should keep using them.
Under the proposed ballot language, voters would have decided whether the city should stop participating in and using an automatic license plate recognition system.
Ultimately, the Conroe City Council voted 3-2 against the proposal on Thursday.
This comes amid several Flock camera controversies that have increased nationwide scrutiny and surveillance concerns.
On Friday, ABC13 reported that three Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies were suspended from using Flock Safety's system, and a Deer Park police officer faced disciplinary action after allegedly misusing Flock cameras.
Flock Safety has announced it plans to adjust its platform to quell privacy concerns and to combat documented abuses of its system by law enforcement officers. Critics have reacted skeptically, saying the changes still leave room for abuses.
