It is exactly one week until Calfee Middle School is supposed to open its doors for the first time to students on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
According to the City of Conroe, it cannot provide utility service to a commercial tract outside of city limits, unless there's a developer agreement. The city says that agreement has not happened, so it had to shut off water to the school.
Contrary to that, the district released a statement saying it has worked relentlessly with city officials to get necessary approvals.
On Wednesday morning, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough posted a video to social media about the current water hold-up.
"We are in our third day of our water, water hostage crisis," Judge Keough said. "That's what we're dealing with here."
The county judge said the county fire marshal and inspectors were at the school to help get it opened for students. However, Keough claimed the city refuses to restore the water.
"Go ahead and turn the water on," Keough said in his video. "It's that easy."
ABC13 reached out to the mayor and city council members for comment as well. Councilman Harry Hardman replied, saying that the city is concerned about recent statements made without all the facts regarding the water service.
"The City of Conroe and I are committed to working diligently with WISD to address the outstanding issues and find solutions that solve this problem to both parties' satisfaction. We are also committed to ensuring that students can attend school as scheduled," Hardman said in his statement.
