Suspect fatally shoots himself at end of chase involving stolen vehicle near Highway 290, HCSO says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A suspect has died after allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle that came to an end near US-290 and Becker Road Monday afternoon, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The Katy Police Department said it responded to reports of a vehicle being stolen at about 12:21 p.m. along Morgan Parkway.

Police said they were able to track the vehicle but the suspect refused to stop. Katy PD said HCSO and Texas DPS assisted during the lengthy pursuit.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the suspect vehicle came to a stop at that intersection, and the driver of the suspect vehicle allegedly shot himself.

According to police, the suspect was taken to the hospital by ambulance. In a later update, Gonzalez said the man had died at the hospital.



No injuries to law enforcement were reported.
