HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman hired to care for a disabled veteran is accused of making purchases using credit card information she allegedly obtained while working inside the family's Cypress home, according to court documents.

According to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office, Becky Butler-Amya was hired as an in-home caregiver to assist an 83-year-old disabled veteran and his family.

"It was somebody that was in their home, someone who had access to the family, someone who was a helping hand to the family, so someone who the family entrusted," Precinct 4 Capt. Aaron Strain said.

Investigators said the family began noticing unauthorized charges on multiple credit cards between January and May, including cards belonging to the veteran and other family members.

Court documents show one card was used for a nearly $80 purchase at a Shell gas station in May. Records also show another charge of more than $97 at a restaurant.

Around the same time, investigators say one family member received a notification that his credit card had been used for an Uber Eats order totaling nearly $82. When he checked his wallet, he discovered the card was missing. According to investigators, Butler-Amya was the only person at the home at the time.

"Just being in the home, just having access to things around the home, is when we believe the credit card was taken," said Strain.

The family eventually contacted Harris County Precinct 4 after becoming suspicious of Butler-Amya.

A department spokesperson told ABC13 that when deputies contacted her, she admitted to making the unauthorized charges. However, she was not arrested at the time because a warrant had not yet been filed.

"We have filed an arrest warrant for her arrest. She is currently wanted out of the Harris County Constable's Office," Strain said.
