HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A burglary suspect was found dead in a flipped-over car after police say he fled from officers in The Heights.

According to the Houston Police Department, a security guard at the Lenox Timbergrove apartment complex on West 11th Street near Ella spotted someone breaking into vehicles and called 911.

When officers arrived, police said the suspect turned off his lights to avoid being seen.

Police said they followed the suspect out of the garage and put on their emergency lights and sirens to pull the suspect over.

The driver then sped away, and officers lost sight of the vehicle, police said.

Officers said they later found the vehicle flipped over and on fire. The person was found dead inside the vehicle.

An investigation is ongoing.
