HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Harris County Medical Examiner's was on the scene Monday of a death investigation in north Harris County.
A homeless man told Eyewitness News he went to find shelter in a wooded area adjacent to a car wash and apartment complex along Cypress Station Drive near Butterfield Road.
The man, who didn't want to be identified, said he discovered the skeletal remains late Monday morning. He revealed the remains looked badly decomposed, at first not even realizing what he found in the brush under blankets.
"I was throwing blanket after blanket after blanket in a pile," said the man. "Next thing you know, I come across a skull. I just saw the side of it and thought it was a piece of plastic."
The Harris County Sheriff's Office homicide investigators had the area sealed off in crime scene tape. Authorities said it's too early to tell if the remains of a man or a woman, and or speculate about the circumstances of the person's death.
