HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A 16-year-old Alief student who's charged in connection with threats to Beth Israel Synagogue and The Shlenker School will remain detained, a Harris County judge decided Friday morning.
According to the judge, the boy, who's been charged with conspiracy to commit capital murder, is a danger to himself and others.
In the courtroom, his state-appointed attorney argued that his client should be released because he only received threats in a group chain and didn't actively engage in them, but the state said he'd previously been suspended for making online threats.
ABC13 previously reported that 18-year-old North Carolina resident Angelina Han Hicks is also in custody over allegations she wanted to "kill as many Jews as possible" at a Houston synagogue using a vehicle.
The judge presiding over the case on Friday morning said the juvenile's next detention hearing is scheduled for May 7.
