At the scene, HPD Sgt. D. Griffiths told ABC13 that just before the incident, the man was walking with his wife after she got off work at a nearby restaurant.

"She was ahead of him, he was walking behind, and that's when he was struck by the vehicle that didn't stop," Griffiths said, adding that they were not in a crosswalk.

In an update, HPD said the driver who fled was in a white SUV.
