HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Congratulations are in order for ABC13 anchor Gina Gaston, who has been named the Houston Symphony League's 2026 Icon of the Year.

Gina was honored Wednesday for her work and dedication to highlighting the symphony's music education and community outreach programs through ABC13's longtime partnership with the non-profit.

During an on-stage interview, Gina shared her experiences traveling with the symphony and how its musicians have impacted people around the world.

ABC13 recently documented the symphony's efforts to make its concert programs accessible to students, hospitals, and neighborhoods in our special, "Playing It Forward."

The Grammy Award-winning Houston Symphony was founded in 1913 by Miss Ima Hogg and is one of America's oldest performing arts organizations with a distinguished musical history.

Its inaugural performance was held at the Majestic Theater in downtown Houston before going on to make Jones Hall its home, where it is housed currently.

Fun fact: The symphony even has history with ABC13, helping to launch the station with a celebration live from the University of Houston campus on Nov. 20, 1954.

Throughout the years, the non-profit has repeatedly given back to the community, staging free concerts each summer and offering a variety of popular programming, including classical concerts, POPs concerts, and special performances during the holidays.

The symphony in itself is iconic.

It's no wonder the organization and Gina have been a perfect match, with the longtime Eyewitness News anchor often at the center of storytelling tied to the symphony.

You can watch Gina during the week on Eyewitness News at 6 p.m.
