Patrick Wageman, 88, has lived on the 2200 block of Elmen near Fairview for more than 30 years.
Neighbors say he has a reputation for telling his people who walk by his home to stay off his lawn. But on Monday night, Wageman allegedly pulled a gun on a man walking his dog. The Precinct 1 Constables' office arrested him and took the gun. He is now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Abby Patel, who said Wagemen has yelled at her before regarding her dogs, but never threatened her with a weapon, told ABC13, "I'm a little shocked but not surprised."
"He's just kind of been like, just like, 'Get those dogs off my lawn!' So usually, I would just walk really fast past his house. But, when he's in the backyard, we for sure walk really fast," Patel said.
The neighborhood has no shortage of dog lovers, and across the street, a sign on a fence warns others walking their pets to avoid the area in front of Wageman's home. After his arrest, it's a warning some say they'll take even more seriously.
"That makes me a bit nervous to walk around these parts to be honest with you," Chelsea Howell, a professional dog walker in the area, said. "But, I mean, he's gone now, so hopefully he should be good."
