LAKE JACKSON, Texas (KTRK) -- A 67-year-old woman was sexually assaulted and sent to the emergency room, according to the Lake Jackson Police Department.

Police said officers went to a home around 6:45 a.m. after a report of sexual assault and found the woman injured. She was taken to the emergency room for treatment and examination.

"So sad. Yeah, it's so sad," said neighbor Arlette Gutierrez.

Gutierrez said she was at home when it happened.

"I went outside to walk my dogs," Gutierrez said. "The cop walked behind me and saying that we can't go inside. 'There's a crime investigation, no extra footprints are needed,' and stuff like that."

The police department said detectives are still investigating and working to identify everyone involved.

According to LJPD, based on the evidence and the victim's statements, there is no perceived threat to others.

Even so, neighbors told ABC13 they feel shaken by what happened.

"My daughter is here all the time. She's only 11, and it's scary to know that someone might be lurking in the neighborhood," said neighbor Emily Lunford.

ABC13 asked police if there was forced entry, if a suspect had been identified, or if there was a description available for the public.

Police said there is no new information to share at this time because the investigation is still ongoing.
