HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Three people, including a Houston police officer, were injured in a crash on the Katy Freeway at Beltway 8 on Sunday morning, authorities say.

According to the Houston Police Department, an officer and a wrecker driver responded to a driver who needed help on the Katy Freeway near Beltway 8 at about 2:50 a.m. on Sunday. Officials said the driver was a woman who had four children in her vehicle.

Authorities said the officer and the wrecker driver were helping the woman put gas in her vehicle when a blue Honda Accord hit the officer's vehicle, causing injuries to the officer, the wrecker driver, and the woman.

Investigators said the officer and the wrecker driver suffered minor injuries, but added that the woman had more severe injuries to her leg. The four children in the woman's vehicle were not injured, authorities said, adding that family members came to pick up the children from the scene.

The officer, the wrecker driver, and the woman were taken to a local hospital, where, according to officials, none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

The suspect driving the blue Honda Accord was arrested for DWI, according to police.

Authorities said the incident caused all westbound main lanes of the Katy Freeway to close, with the scene cleared and all lanes reopened by 6:50 a.m.

Eyewitness News captured images of the blue Honda Accord after it allegedly hit an HPD officer's vehicle, injuring three people, including the officer.
