The first bite happened around 11am while 15-year-old boy was surfing. Authorities say the shark bit his right foot about 100 yards from shore. The boy made it back to the beach on his own.
At 11:30am, about a mile south of where the first bite was reported, a 29-year-old man was also bitten on the foot -- his left -- also while surfing.
Both victims suffered deep cuts.
Authorities say water conditions, including more bait fish, poor visibility, and a murky, rough surf may have contributed to the incidents. Volusia County Beach Safety Capt. Aaron Jenkins says sharks might mistake a foot for bait fish.
These are shark bites 10 and 11 in Volusia for the county this year.
The area's beaches are open.
