HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- One teen was shot near NRG, and another is facing charges for pulling the trigger, according to the Harris County Precinct One Constables Office.

Eyewitness News was told the incident involved at least five students from the Harris County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program. The JJAEP is a program for students from our area who were expelled for criminal or disciplinary issues.

The Harris County Juvenile Justice Department confirmed five students heading to school got off the bus on Wednesday morning but never went inside.

Shortly after, a call went out around 9 a.m. on Kirby Drive near McNee Road for shots fired, according to the Harris County Pct. 1 Constable's Office.

Investigators said the group of students encountered another group of young people just a few blocks away. Law enforcement said there was an argument, and shots were fired near McKey and Kirby. That's where law enforcement said they found one juvenile with a gunshot wound who was taken to the hospital. The gunshot wound is being described as 'superficial'.

Pct. 1 said they were told about a car that may be involved, which they found a short while later and pulled over. Investigators said the shooter was found inside the vehicle. ABC13 asked if there was any relationship between the driver and the shooter, but so far, law enforcement said the driver claims the shooter just jumped into the car.

This all happened near the NRG grounds and training facilities. Officers on foot and K9 units could be seen from SkyEye as they searched the nearby ground. Eyewitness News also saw what appeared to be two young people placed into law enforcement vehicles and driven away.

Precinct one confirms that at least one 16-year-old will face a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Juvenile Justice Department said they're working to confirm if the person shot or the people facing charges are students.
