Houston TranStar reported the heavy truck crash at about 11:47 a.m. on I-45 South at 71st Street, blocking multiple southbound lanes as a result.
Galveston Police Department officers said three vehicles were involved in the wreck, adding that multiple people were taken to the hospital. In an update, police said one person had died in the hospital.
The other victims' conditions are unknown.
It's unclear at this time what led to the wreck, but Galveston PD said it's investigating along with Texas DPS.
