HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston police are searching for the person responsible for shooting a 12-year-old girl through her bedroom window on Tuesday.

Dion Che told ABC13 her daughter, Miracle, was shot inside her Northwest Houston apartment off of Hammerly Boulevard just minutes after she arrived home from school.

"She didn't know what hit her," Che said. She said the family struggled to piece together what happened until her daughter pulled a bullet out of her upper back.

Che said she "blacked out" as she and her sister called 911 and placed pressure on the wound.

"She was bleeding so I was just trying to keep her awake and keep talking to her," Che said.

Che said gun violence has been an issue at the apartment complex. Still, she said she is unsure if the shooting was targeted.

Che is asking anyone with information to contact Houston police.

Speaking directly to the shooter, she said, "If you big enough to shoot, then you big enough to take the consequences."

As for Miracle, Che said she is "happy" and expected to fully recover.

"Her name (is) her name, for a reason," she smiled.
