Just before 7 p.m., the Houston Police Department said officers received a call about a shooting in the 8600 block of Lomax Street. When officers arrived, they found the 11-year-old had been shot in the torso.
Police learned the brothers were playing in front of the house when a light blue, four-door sedan with a Hispanic man pulled up. According to Lt. Larry Crowson, the vehicle had driven by two or three times before stopping and firing at least two gunshots, one of which hit the 11-year-old.
The child was taken to the hospital and is undergoing surgery, but Crowson said, "they're optimistic on his outcome."
It's unclear if the scene was targeted, but Crowson said investigators are trying to figure that out.
