1 shot during funeral at southeast Houston church, according to police department

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- One person was shot during a funeral held at a church in southeast Houston on Friday afternoon, according to police.

The Houston Police Department said officers responded to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, located at 8301 Brandon Street, at about 12 p.m. for a call about a shooting. Investigators said they determined an argument started in the parking lot of the church.

According to HPD, one person was shot during the funeral on Friday and was taken away from the scene in a private vehicle. The victim's condition is unknown at this time, and the victim has not yet been located by police.

Police said no suspects have been identified at this time.

Houston police said investigators are looking at surveillance video for more details, adding that they also found shell casings at the scene.



ABC13 spoke with witnesses at the scene, who explained that the funeral was for Darius Phillips, who was shot and killed after a fight broke out at a party.
