According to Pasadena police, officers were searching the area for 35-year-old Samuel Frias, who was wanted on a felony aggravated assault warrant from a domestic violence case on Feb. 21.
Sources said Frias was also a person of interest in a murder that happened earlier this week on Hemlock Drive in Pasadena, where a man was found shot to death.
When officers spotted the suspect in a parking lot, he reportedly ran off, sparking a foot chase.
While running away, police said Frias displayed a handgun.
Officers gave him verbal commands to drop the weapon, but he ignored their instructions, according to Pasadena police.

"When that took place, he pulled a handgun out, displayed it in a threatening manner, and our officers shot and killed him," Assistant Chief Kevin Wingerson said.
It was unclear how many officers fired their weapons or if the man ever fired his gun.
The investigation is ongoing.
