TSU's Derrick Griffin preparing for NFL Draft: 'This is what I've wanted so long'

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Derrick Griffin played just one full season of college football at Texas Southern University.

While at TSU, he caught 11 touchdown passes. In his one full season of basketball with the Tigers he averaged a double-double and was the SWAC Player of the Year.

Football was his first love and that's where Griffin sees his future. He recently declared for the 2017 NFL Draft.

"It was a big surprise to a lot of people because I was doing so well in basketball," he said. "But football has always been my first love so that's what I picked at the end of the day."

At 6 feet 7 inches tall and 230 pounds, Griffin no doubt has the size and the hands to play in the NFL.

Danny Arnold, of Plex, is working with Griffin to get his speed and quickness NFL ready. Derrick working to get there.



"I'm really just preparing myself," Griffin said. "This is what I've wanted so long."

Arnold is preparing Griffin on all levels.

"What surprises me is how much he's progressing everyday," Arnold added.

Griffin is using a special type of glasses that will help him focus and impress NFL scouts.

"Whenever I see a big game, I always picture myself in those games," Griffin added. "I'm going to get in those moments one of these days."
