GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department sank a ship to help the environment.

The "Kraken" was sunk off the coast of Galveston over the last weekend, officials said. It used to haul fuel and other cargo, but has been cleaned and repurposed.

It's an effort to create an artificial reef.

Divers went down yesterday to check and fish are already moving in and cews expecting a lot more over the next few months.
