Rollover crash kills chase suspect on E. Sam Houston Pkwy

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Dramatic video shows a deadly rollover crash involving a chase suspect on East Sam Houston Parkway.

Around 12:15 a.m., Harris County Sheriff's deputies tried stopping the driver of a Ford Explorer on Avenue D in Channelview.

Investigators said the man would not pull over for deputies, but instead took off at high speed.

Deputies said the man ran a red light, and by the time they caught up with him on the northbound Beltway 8 feeder road near Highway 90, the driver had lost control.

Houston Transtar cameras recorded the moment the Explorer rolled five times. Investigators said the driver was ejected from the vehicle and died.

We do not know the driver's name, but he is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s.

Deputies said the man was the only one inside the Explorer, and they can smell alcohol on his body.

There were no other injuries and fortunately, no other vehicles were hit during the chase.

For now, the northbound Beltway feeder road is blocked at the Highway 90 exit as they investigate.
