2nd suspect charged in deaths of 11-year-old and Houston rapper

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting deaths of an 11-year-old boy and a Houston rapper.

According to an update issued by police on Thursday, 39-year-old Dewayne Batiste was charged with capital murder after a shooting in west Houston that killed 11-year-old Dominic Sumicek and 41-year-old Menuelle Solomon.

The shooting happened Oct. 26, 2020, in an apartment complex parking lot on Old Farm Road.

Solomon was fatally shot while trying to shield Dominic from gunfire, multiple neighbors and the victim's ex told ABC13 at the time. He was a rapper on YouTube who went by the name "Montana22."

In Dec. 2020, 21-year-old Desmond Hawkins was charged with capital murder.

Police said Batiste tried to shoot Solomon six days before the shooting.

He then returned the night of the incident, along with Hawkins, and shot the boy and Solomon, according to investigators.

It's unclear when Batiste is expected to appear in court.
