GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- This year's big Mardi Gras celebration is in full swing in Galveston.

Mardi Gras is officially celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 28, or Fat Tuesday.

More than 300,000 people are expected to hit the island during the event between Feb. 17 and Feb. 22.

There are more than 30 concerts, 22 parades, 20 balcony parties and five masked balls, according to organizers.

Security is tight, including a new no-fly zone for drones in the area.

One of the celebration's big events, Fiesta Gras, drew Latino music fans as La Mafia performed Sunday.

Oscar De La Rosa, of La Mafia, told ABC13's Antonio Arellano they are excited to be back in the studio, working on a new record deal alongside some very big names.

Who they are remains to be scene, but De La Rosa says it's going to be a big deal.

"It's going to be exciting," De La Rosa said. "A lot of different artists, pop, Latino, a little bit of everything."
