Lake Conroe reopens after weekend closure due to high water levels

CONROE, Texas (KTRK) -- Lake Conroe is set to reopen to normal activities Monday after having closed all motorized boat traffic Sunday due to hazardous water conditions, according to authorities.

The San Jacinto River Authority announced the lake will reopen "normal lake traffic" and activities at noon.

Lake Conroe had been closed due to high water levels, submerged objects, floating debris, and other hazards that could put people at risk.

Officials said the lake level had risen nearly two feet above the normal pool level after up to five inches of rain fell in a span of several hours.

Boaters are still urged to use extreme caution when out on the lake because there may still be some floating debris and submerged objects that are difficult to see, according to local authorities. Lake area residents should also be aware of electrical outlets and equipment potentially coming into contact with water.
