LEAGUE CITY, Texas (KTRK) -- League City volunteer firefighters spent Valentine's night battling a blaze that destroyed the popular restaurant Kelley's Country Cookin'.

On Monday, at about 6:48 p.m. four different crews responded to the fire at Kelley's Country Cookin' in the 1500 block of FM 518.

Three firefighters who went in to assist suffered minor injuries when crews were pulling down the ceiling of the restaurant and a piece of faux beam fell on them.

The department said crews are going into defensive attack and had every fire crew in the city respond to the blaze. Firefighters from Dickinson, Nassau Bay, Friendswood, and Forest Bend assisted while Santa Fe fire squads arrived to the city provide backup in the League City firehouses.

Video shows smoke coming from the restaurant's roof as firefighters attempt to extinguish the quickly spreading flames.

The restaurant was open with customers who got out safely. Many of which are first responders who helped extinguish the fire, said League City Fire Chief Michael Lugo.

Three construction workers on the roof had been performing work for several days, said Lugo.

The blaze was brought under control just after 8 p.m. At this time, it's still unclear what started the fire.
