La Marque mom angry after son's accused killer walks free

LA MARQUE, Texas (KTRK) -- A grieving family is questioning why an accused killer has been allowed to walk free.

Joseph Farek, 22, is one of two men charged in the March shooting death of Roy Ornelas.

Lake Jackson investigators believe Farek and Allen Taylor, 22, shot Ornelas to death and then dumped his body along the Brazos River.

For months, both men had bond set at $1 million. Last month, a judge reduced Farek's to $100,000 and he made it.

"I was angry. I am angry. I'm pissed off," said Rachel Ornelas, the victim's mother. "That man, Farek, should not be out here enjoying Christmas. He shouldn't be out here looking at the birds, hearing them chirping, hugging his family. Where's Roy at?"

The Brazoria County District Attorney's Office did contest the bond reduction citing "the gravity of the circumstances of the offense and the future safety of the community."

District Attorney Jeri Yenne added simply, "we don't agree to bond reductions for murder." A judge disagreed.

Joseph Farek, 22, is out on bond after being accused in the death of Roy Ornales.
